Paintings: how high should you hang them?
The most common mistake with pictures is hanging them too high. One height rule and a few spacing tips solve any wall.
Pictures that light up
Glass wall art, some with built-in LED lighting, creates an accent on the wall. Dimensions are listed in each product title.

Group above the sofa, free wall art
The dashed line is at the eye level of a standing person. The center of the pictures is on it, at 145–155 cm. Above the sofa, the group starts at 20–25 cm from the backrest, even if the center is slightly lower.
Height
On a free wall, the center of the picture should be 145–155 cm from the floor, which is at the eye level of a standing person. This rule applies regardless of how large the picture is: a tall picture goes up, not with its center. For a group of pictures, the center is measured at the middle of the entire group.
Above furniture
- Sofa: the bottom frame should be 20–25 cm above the backrest.
- Console or dresser: 15–25 cm above the top.
- Bed: 20–30 cm above the headboard, so you don't hit the picture with your head.
- Width: the picture or group should be about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it.
Wall with multiple pictures
- Lay the pictures on the floor and try out different arrangements before making holes.
- Cut out the shape of each picture from paper and tape them to the wall.
- Keep the same distance between the frames, 5–8 cm.
- Align either the top or bottom edges, or a central horizontal axis.
- Start with the largest picture in the center and build around it.
Picture lighting
A lit picture becomes the focal point of the wall. You have three options: a picture light mounted above the frame, a ceiling spotlight, or a picture with its own LED lighting. For pictures and photographs, request light with a CRI of 90 or higher.
Hallways and stairs
In a hallway, keep the same center height (145–155 cm) along the entire length, so the line of pictures looks continuous. On stairs, follow the slope of the steps: the center of each picture should be 145–155 cm from the step directly below it.
Designer's tip: a single large picture looks better than many small pictures spread across all the walls of the room.
Common mistakes
- Pictures hung close to the ceiling.
- Uneven distances between the frames in a group.
- A small picture alone on a large wall.
